Story: The Gambian economy has been largely anchored on groundnut exports. Groundnut not only boosts the country's GDP but also provides employment for thousands of Gambians. However, this vital sector has been severely affected by the widespread use of chemical fertilizers, which have damaged soil fertility and led to a significant decline in crop yields across many parts of the country. As a result, farmers are now struggling to sustain their livelihoods. Given that groundnut exports account for over 40% of The Gambia’s foreign exchange earnings, this issue poses a serious threat to both individual incomes and the national economy.
