Story: On 18th February 2025, The Gambia marked its diamond jubilee, a celebration that came with a price tag of more than D100 million for an event that lasted only a few hours. As part of preparations for this national milestone, the country’s security forces underwent three months of intensive training to deliver a flawless and eye-catching parade. Both men and women were drawn from across the country, with the Gambia Police Force playing a central role. However, several police officers have expressed frustration, revealing that despite their commitment and sacrifices, the parade and rehearsal allowances promised to them were never paid. Officers from the provinces said they were asked to fill out claimant forms for their entitlements, but their provincial allowances remain unsettled after almost a month of the event.
