Story: Michael Sang Correa is a former Jungler tried in the United States for torture crimes. Ahead of his trial, the Republic examines why US prosecutors charged Correa with only torture and not murder. The Truth Reconciliation and Reparations Commission found him guilty for several crimes, including murder but Correa was not prosecuted for these crimes. To show an example of one of such crimes, our story sheds light on the extrajudicial killings and subsequent coverup of murder of Ebou Lowe, a soldier at the Gambia Armed Forces, former spy chief Daba Marenah, Alpha Bah, Manlafi Corr and Alieu Ceesay. The story opens with Ousman Lowe, son of Ebou Lowe, one of the soldiers of The Gambia Armed Forces, who was summarily executed on allegations that he took part in a coup plot. The story outlines the disappointment of several other victims waiting for justice to be done back home, whilst highlighting the political climate that is makes this almost impossible.
