Mustapha K Darboe is a multiple awards winning investigative journalist. He is head of the investigation desk and a founding co-publisher at Malagen, The Gambia’s leading investigative journalism outlet. In 2020, Darboe cofounded Malagen led a series of investigations into public corruption primarily focused on the Office of the President and the Ministry of Fisheries and Water Resources.

Following his publication of the several investigations and the resulting public outcry, the police and ministry of justice arrested and prosecuted some people named in the investigations. In March 2023, the Ministry of Justice secured a conviction against a former permanent secretary exposed by one of Mustapha’s investigations in 2020.

In 2022, Mustapha’s investigation into illegal timber trade won the African Prize for Investigative Journalism. Mustapha started his journalism career in 2014.
